The U-pipe is made up of copper tubing which is bent at certain points to form a U shape, hence the name "U Tube". The two segments of the manifold header are parallel, and welding onto the two main pipes are several U-pipes, which take up the full length of the evacuated glass tube . The U-pipe is enclosed with an aluminum fin which absorbs heat energy from the glass vacuum tubes and the energy is then transferred to the U-pipe. When the water or other medium flows through the main , header pipe, it has to flow through the U-pipe because the two main pipes are not linked together. In this way the water or medium is heated by the u-pipe.
